Accused: A Rosato & DiNunzio Novel by Lisa Scottoline
Summary: Mary DiNunzio has just been promoted to partner and is about to take on her most unusual case yet. Allegra Gardner’s sister, Fiona, was murdered six years ago, and it seemed like an open-and-shut case, but Allegra believes the accused murderer, Lonnie Stall, is innocent and has been wrongly imprisoned.
Enjoyable, Yet Disappointing
I am always up for a good mystery, and it’s been forever since I’ve read one, which may have exacerbated my disappointment with Accused. Although I didn’t hate the novel, I was expecting more thrill from this self-proclaimed thriller. It seemed more like an episode of a soapy drama with all of Mary’s family and home life drama. I don’t know if that is a one off or if the author always includes dispersed lightheartedness throughout her books, but I could have used way less of that and way more nail-biting scenarios. The story didn’t even get really intense until the last few chapters! This was my first time reading a book by Lisa Scottoline. I’m sure it won’t be my last, not because Accused was so amazing, but because I need to read at least a few more books by the author before I write her off completely.
Overall Opinion
It doesn’t take a lot of brainpower or concentration to understand the story, but I was surprised by who was revealed as the actual killer. This is not a great mystery, but I enjoyed the book for the most part. Accused is a definite beach read. If you have the time, you could probably read this in a day or two. Rating: Page Turner
